Semi Cab Destroyed in South Sacramento Freeway Crash

A big rig crash with a sedan occurred along the South Sacramento Freeway in Elk Grove on October 24. The accident happened around 7:26 in the morning along southbound S.R. 99 just north of the eastbound Laguna Boulevard on-ramp. The report issued by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that the big rig damaged 30 to 40 feet of guardrail and overturned, blocking the slow lane.

Accident Involving Big Rig Crash Being Investigated by Authorities

The sedan ended up on the right-hand side. Damage to the cab of the big rig was major, and it became disconnected from the 53-foot empty trailer it was hauling. No information was released on injuries suffered in the big rig crash. An investigation into the cause of the collision is underway by the CHP to determine how it occurred and which driver was at fault.

Accidents Involving Big Rigs

When a passenger vehicle is involved in a collision with a big rig, serious injuries often occur to those inside the smaller car. This is due to the big rig’s much larger size, ground clearance, and weight. Some of the types of accidents that can occur that involve a big rig include:

  • Underride/override accidents: Sometimes, a big rig crash involves either an underride or override. An underride accident occurs when a small vehicle passes under a big rig, which is often fatal because it shears off the top of the car. In an override accident, the driver of the big rig may have been speeding or distracted, which ended up in the semi passing over a smaller vehicle.
  • Blind spot collisions: All big trucks have blind spots that surround the vehicle. If the driver doesn’t pay attention to smaller vehicles in his/her blind spot and tries to change lanes, it can result in a big rig crash.
  • Badly loaded or overloaded trucks: A big rig crash can occur when the trailer is badly loaded or overloaded because it can cause the weight to shift or make it too top-heavy. This type of bad planning can lead to a rollover that impacts other vehicles.
  • Wide turns: Some big rig crashes occur when the tractor-trailer or other large vehicle is making a turn. Because of their size and length, the driver often has to swing wide and go into the next lane to make that turn, which can impact other vehicles. In addition, some big vehicles such as dump trucks can only move slowly to make a turn. If they go too fast, the vehicle will roll.

Placing a Claim for Compensation Following an Injury Accident

When someone is injured in a big rig crash, it can cause traumatic injuries and result in hospitalization, the inability to work, and pain and suffering. By filing a claim for compensation, the injured party can recover their financial losses and be reimbursed for their pain and suffering. We’ve helped many people do just that.

Our injury lawyers conduct a thorough investigation of the accident to collect the evidence needed to support your claim. We understand what you’re going through and work hard to get you the compensation you deserve, and you pay nothing until we’ve won your case.
