Big-Rig Crash Causes Major Injuries near Redding

A big-rig accident happened outside of Redding on Thursday, April 25, 2019. According to reports from California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident caused at least one major injury, and a medical helicopter was called to the site of the collision. Further information about injured individuals has not yet been provided by officials. Additionally, officers of CHP are still investigating the crash in order to determine possible causal factors.

Crash Details

Traffic reports indicate that the crash took place at about 7:25 a.m. on Highway Interstate 5 just north of the on-ramp at Gilman Road. At this time, a Jeep Cherokee and a large tractor-trailer were involved in an accident. Details about how the two vehicles collided have not been provided by authorities. Reports indicated that the Jeep sustained major damage to its front end.

Response

CHP and The California Department of Fire Protection and Forestry both assisted with accident response. Responders at the collision scene reported that one person was trapped inside of their vehicle. The trapped individual was extricated from their vehicle successfully and taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care.

Investigation

As investigators are looking into what may have caused this accident, no suspect factors have been reported as of yet. Trucking collisions are very dangerous and are liable to be caused by various factors such as fatigue, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, poorly maintained vehicle equipment, faulty auto products such as brakes or accelerator pedals, and more.

Trucking Collisions

Large commercial vehicles are a massive part of the California economy and are a common site on local roads. Because these vehicles are so large, they can easily cause major injuries in the event of a crash, even if the crash happens at low speeds. For this reason, the state and federal governments have restrictions on trucking companies that are meant to keep roadways safe. If a company or their driver is found to be in violation of these regulations, they can often be held liable to pay for damages caused by the accident.

While these protections are good for the drivers of passenger vehicles, trucking companies are well aware of their liability. Because operating a trucking fleet is a risk, companies usually have a response team ready in case one of their vehicles is involved in a crash. When a crash happens, these teams will head directly to the accident scene in order to gather their own evidence and take statements from witnesses. Because trucking companies are so quick to respond, calling a lawyer as soon as you can is vital if you have been involved in an accident involving a large truck. If a lawyer can begin working on your case right away, they can more effectively make sure that trucking companies don’t disclaim responsibility.
