Many local residents and commuters from Sacramento to Yolo county found themselves stuck in traffic after a large trucking accident shut down Interstate 80 on June 16, 2015.  This major collision involved a big rig and eight vehicles.  The crash was so severe that traffic was closed on I-80 westbound from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

It was a traumatic event to those who witnessed the big rig plow through traffic and ultimately cause an eight car pileup.  Eight people were injured in this accident with one individual suffering major trauma.  This collision created a flurry of news media  coverage in our area.  Articles and videos can be found at these sites: News 10, Sacbee and KCRA.

West Sacramento has been fortunate and has managed to keep traffic fatalities relatively low within the city itself. The City of West Sacramento has tried to keep traffic incidents to a minimum by installing a large amount of traffic cameras in this community.

Nonetheless, major traffic collisions remain a threatening presence at the points of freeway connections between I-80 and 50 and I-80 and I-5 in Yolo County. The number of fatalities and severe trauma sustained due to these collisions continues to escalate on a yearly basis.
