Bicycle Rider injured in Accident in Carmichael

On September 10, a bicycle rider was injured in a traffic collision with a motorist along Mission Avenue in Carmichael. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident happened just south of Ulysses Drive after 8:00 in the morning and involved the driver of a Chevy Malibu. Emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived to offer assistance to the bicycle rider and evaluate the injuries the bicyclist sustained.

What an Attorney Can Do for You

Bicycle accidents can end in catastrophic injuries. Not only do you face hospital stays and the inability to work, but you must also deal with insurance companies and perhaps bring the at-fault party to court with a civil lawsuit. The insight a personal injury lawyer brings to the case is often vital to recover damages. Our law firm works hard for you. We dispatch our investigative team to the accident site to gather evidence, interview clients, and obtain videos of the accident from traffic cameras and nearby businesses. We also review police reports for accuracy. Once this is done, the data is released to our legal team who will structure a strong case in your favor.

Bicycle Accidents

Bicycle riders are choosing to ride as an alternative to using a car in the city and in residential areas. However, due to the abundance of traffic on the streets, more riders are being involved in an accident than ever before. In 2016 alone, about 18,477 bicyclists were injured, and approximately 800 were involved in fatal accidents. There has been a steady increase in the number of fatal accidents in recent years. Overall, the majority of people injured or killed in bicycle accidents are adults with roughly 10 percent being children. Among the children, those who are 10 to 15 years old have the most risk of being involved in a bicycle accident. Alcohol use has a horrific effect on safety. Both bicycle riders and drivers are affected by it. Distraction is another major reason for bicycle accidents. Motor vehicle drivers who fail to obey the rules of the road, such as stopping for traffic lights and stop signs as well as speeding, are often at fault.

Head Trauma to a Bicycle Rider

One of the worst injuries a bicycle rider can suffer is head trauma. A concussion is common and will require about six months to heal. More serious traumatic brain injuries also occur. Not wearing a helmet is a primary reason head injuries happen. Although helmets are not required for adults in California, they are able to reduce the number of head injuries by 50 percent.
