Berkeley Resident Dies after Antioch Traffic Collision

I’m Ed Smith, an Antioch wrongful death lawyer. A Berkeley man was driving in Antioch during the morning of Friday, February 16, 2018. The man was involved in an auto accident which, sadly, caused him to suffer fatal injuries.

We would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the loved ones of the gentleman that passed away in this collision.

What Happened?

An auto accident occurred near the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue and Davison Drive at approximately 9:30 am. Upon preliminary investigation, officials from the Antioch Police Department reported that a 49-year-old Berkeley man suffered a medical emergency prior to the collision.

Nature of Injuries

Paramedics were called to the scene of the car accident to render aid to two parties. One party suffered serious injuries following the accident. It is not yet known whether this party was hospitalized for their injuries. Medical personnel performed life-saving measures on the man but were unable to save him. Sadly, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Identity of Victim

The identity of the victim has not been disclosed as of this writing.

What Caused the Accident?

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Authorities do not believe alcohol and/or drugs contributed as factors to the collision.

Accident Rates in the Bay Area Increasing

Over the last few years, the Bay Area has become a more and more dangerous place to drive – and this is not solely exclusive to motorists. Pedestrians and bicyclists on the streets are also facing higher injury and death rates. The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) released an official data collection report showing a shocking 43 percent increase from 2010 to 2016 in the number of traffic accidents involving vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians in the Bay Area.

Population size may contribute as a factor in the increased number of accidents over these years as there is a high percentage of commuters traveling to and from the Bay Area on a daily basis. However, MTC data proves otherwise and reported that the primary cause of these accidents is human error. MTC data analysis revealed some of the top factors that were overwhelmingly prevalent:

The good news about the primary causal factor being a human mistake is that we can put this under our control by making an effort to make better driving decisions.
