Woman Charged with Vehicular Manslaughter

Woman Faces Vehicular Manslaughter Charges

Desire Borela was detained by authorities on December 14, 2016, just hours after she allegedly used her motor vehicle to run over her ex-boyfriend.

What Happened?

A woman driving, her 2006 Nissan Maxima in the Glenwood Condominium Complex parking lot along Glenwood Drive in the vicinity of Village Parkway in Hercules, for reasons that are not known, used her vehicle to run over her former boyfriend. Witnesses reported that they observed the woman was driving in circles in the parking lot as her ex-boyfriend was underneath the vehicle. Emergency crews arrived at the scene to assist the injured man but he passed away.

Desire Borela Turns Herself In

The 19-year-old turned herself in to the Hercules Police Department hours after she allegedly used her motor vehicle to crash into her ex-boyfriend, deliberately. This incident was later declared as a pedestrian accident by authorities due to the fact that the woman’s vehicle dragged the body of her ex-boyfriend and he had no form of protection against a motor vehicle. Investigators identified the injured pedestrian as 22-year-old Ian Irby of Hercules. Borela was booked into the Richmond County Jail that same day. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Borela for vehicular manslaughter in addition to fleeing from the area of the accident.

Handling Cases Hit and Run Accidents

It is incomprehensible that a driver would crash into an innocent victim with their vehicle and flee from the scene leaving the injured victim to pass away alone. At the Edward A Smith Law Offices, we conduct a thorough investigation with cases involving hit-and-run accidents and assist families in receiving compensation for the wrongful death of their family member. With our investigative approaches in these types of cases, we are often able to track down the negligent driver who caused the victim’s death and bring them to justice.
