Sierra College Boulevard Intersection Location of Motorcycle Fatality Crash

A motorcycle fatality crash occurred in Roseville on August 3 in an accident involving a GMC SUV. The collision happened shortly before noon at the intersection of northbound Sierra College Boulevard and Cavitt Stallman Road. Authorities with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident blocked the northbound lanes of Sierra College.

Both Vehicles Retained as Evidence in Motorcycle Fatality Crash

Both vehicles involved in the fatal accident were towed as evidence as an investigation is underway into the cause by the CHP traffic collision unit. The County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased rider once their family has been notified.

Motorcycle Fatality Crash Causes

Although carelessness on the part of a rider can lead to a motorcycle fatality accident, many of these collisions are caused by negligent drivers and other entities. An action for wrongful death can be filed by the family when that occurs. Negligence includes the following types:

  • Driver negligence: Making a turn in front of a motorcycle rider is the most common cause of an injury or fatality accident to the rider. However, speeding through an intersection, drunk driving, stopping short and other negligent actions can also cause a serious collision.
  • Defects in the motorcycle: Defective parts in a motorcycle can make the rider lose control or crash without any advance warning. Brakes, tires and the fuel system are commonly involved. By retaining the motorcycle after a collision, it can be examined by specialists to determine if a defect was the cause, and a product liability claim may be placed by the injured party or family of the deceased to recover compensation.
  • Dangerous roads: Neglected roadway maintenance may lead to a motorcycle fatality crash for a number of reasons, including defective traffic lights, obscured corners, potholes and others. The government agency in charge may be liable in such instances. Because there is a six-month deadline to file a government claim, getting help from an accident attorney may be helpful.

Those Eligible to File a Wrongful Death Claim

Either the estate administrator or immediate family of the deceased may file a claim for wrongful death if another’s negligent actions caused their loved one’s demise. The spouse and children are allowed to file. Also allowed to join that claim would be any children of a deceased child of the decedent. If the spouse didn’t have a spouse or children, the parents and siblings may enter a claim instead.

Overcoming Negative Perceptions of Motorcyclists

Insurers and juries often make negative comments about motorcycle riders due to old movies and negative perceptions, so it’s important to hire an attorney who has experience fighting these comments. Over our many years representing injured motorcyclists or those who have died in collisions with a negligent driver, we’ve been successful many times in doing just that.
