One Dead Following Chico Pickup Truck Crash
On Saturday, October 5, 2019, a Chico pickup truck crash caused the death of one individual. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), only one person suffered trauma during the collision, and only one vehicle was involved. Butte County Sheriff’s Office authorities identified the decedent two days later as 59-year-old Cottonwood resident Timothy Wright. Additionally, CHP has this accident under active investigation in order to determine what causal factors may have been involved.
CHP stated that this accident happened at around 2:00 p.m. Wright had been driving in a white-colored pickup truck traveling on Highway 99 when he attempted to enter the exit ramp located at Highway 32. Officers said that, while entering the off-ramp, Wright apparently lost control of the vehicle for reasons that are not currently understood. The truck traveled off the road and traveled a short distance before overturning and striking a tree with its roof.
Emergency personnel were called to the crash site immediately. When they arrived, they found Wright was severely injured. Whether or not he was taken to a hospital has not been reported. However, an update issued by officials indicated that Wright tragically lost his life as a result of the injuries he sustained during the accident.
As police are investigating this accident, officers have stated that they do not believe speeding was involved. However, further information about the investigation has not yet been released. In cases such as this one, drivers are often not able to tell investigators what happened, meaning that causal factors can go overlooked during an investigation. For this reason, it is important to contact a wrongful death attorney who knows how to conduct their own collision investigation in order to find out whether or not any negligence was involved in the crash.
Rollover collisions account for a much higher percentage of fatal accidents than most other types of collision. There are a few factors that make rollovers dangerous, but one of the main causes of injury when a vehicle overturns is crushed roof injuries. These occur when the roof of a vehicle isn’t strong enough to protect occupants during an accident.
Vehicle manufacturers are expected to ensure that the products they sell are safe, and when a weak roof causes serious or fatal trauma, these companies are often liable to pay for the damages that their faulty product caused. If you’d like to learn more about what compensation may be available to you and your family after a fatal crash, it’s best to contact an experienced attorney in your area to get advice about your specific case. Most attorneys are happy to offer free information over the phone so that you can have the knowledge you need to move forward with recovering financially and personally.
