Mazda RX-8 Recalls
The Japanese automaker, Mazda, has recently issued two separate recalls for some of their trending sports cars. The recalls have both been listed as safety issues due a defect in the suspension and the fuel pump component in the vehicles.
Suspension Recall
A recall has been published on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website for the 2004 Mazda RX-8. Approximately 35,332 cars on the road today are affected by the recall. The recall is listed as a safety issue due to a defect in the front suspension of the vehicle. The defect stems from the ball joint socket on the lower control arm, which may crack and detach from the socket. If this were to occur, it would increase the risk of an accident.
Fuel Pump Recall
The NHTSA also released a separate recall for specific years of the Mazda RX-8 due to a fire hazard risk. The recall affects approximately 69,447 units of the 2004 to 2008 Mazda RX-8. The main area of concern for this recall stems from the fuel pump part of the vehicle. In certain conditions, the main fuel pump pipe may crack under heat from the engine and the exhaust. Fuel may escape through the cracks of the fuel pump pipe, increasing the risk of a fire.
Recall Remedy
Mazda will inform vehicle owners of the recall. Owners can bring their cars to their local dealers to replace the defective parts for free. Both of the recalls are expected to begin on July 30, 2017. Owners of the affected vehicles may contact the Mazda customer service line at (800) 222-5500.
Accident Involving Recalled Vehicle Part
On September 30, 2016, a woman in Riverside County, California was involved in a car accident. The impact from the collision caused the airbags of her vehicle to deploy. Sadly, the woman passed away due to her injuries at the scene. Upon further investigation, the Honda Motor Company confirmed that the victim suffered fatal injuries as a result of the recalled Takata airbags in her vehicle.

When a manufacturer or the NHTSA has determined that a vehicle or part of the vehicle has failed to meet safety standards, a recall is issued. The vehicle or any component part is required to be changed by the manufacturer. Oftentimes, the manufacturer will repair the auto defect, replace the part or even repurchase the vehicle.
