Fatal Napa Highway Crash

Fatal Napa Highway Crash

I’m Ed Smith, a Napa personal injury lawyer. A collision that occurred along a highway near Napa on May 19, 2018, left one man with injuries that tragically cost him his life. Additionally, three more people were left with serious injuries and were all taken to an area hospital for emergency treatment. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that the traffic accident transpired at night and involved three separate vehicles. County officials have not yet identified the man who lost his life as they wait for his family to be notified. However, officers did report that he was a 28-year-old San Francisco resident.

My sincere sympathy is extended to those who have been affected by this devastating accident and are currently mourning their lost loved one.

Crash Information

CHP reported that this accident took place at approximately 8:50 p.m. north of the Washington Street exit on Highway 29. A 2012 Dodge Avenger had been driving northbound along the highway when the driver approached a curve in the roadway. As the driver traveled through the curve, they reportedly lost control of their vehicle by veering to the left and crossing over the center divider. After crossing over the median, the Avenger struck the side of a southbound 2002 Dodge pickup truck. The Avenger continued for a short distance moments before colliding head-on with a southbound Hyundai.

Injuries

A passenger of the Avenger, a 47-year-old man from St. Helena, and the occupants of the Dodge pickup truck were uninjured in the collision. The driver of the Avenger, a 53-year-old woman from Angwin, was found with serious injuries and was taken to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center. CHP further stated that she may have suffered internal trauma. The driver of the Hyundai, a 48-year-old man from Vacaville, suffered a fracture to his right foot. One of the Hyundai passengers was a 27-year-old woman from San Francisco who CHP say may have also sustained internal injuries. Both individuals were taken to the same hospital as the Avenger driver. The third passenger of the Hyundai was the San Francisco man who, sadly, succumbed to his injuries.

Investigation

Just after 9:15 p.m., a Sig Alert was sent out to notify drivers that all lanes of Highway 29 would be closed for three hours. During the highway closure, CHP investigated crash evidence and crews removed wreckage from the road. CHP have not yet reported what factors may have caused this accident as well as why the Avenger driver lost control of her vehicle.
