DUI Driver Causes Car Crash in Brentwood

I’m Ed Smith, a Brentwood Personal Injury Lawyer. Recently, there was a head-on collision between cars in Brentwood, California. Three people were injured in the process, with damages ranging from minor to severe. This is suspected to be a drunk driving accident caused by an unnamed 36-year old male. Around 9:00 p.m. at night, the adult man was traveling westbound down Brentwood Boulevard when he began to drift outside of his lane and into approaching traffic. The male, who was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, crashed head-on with a 2007 Infiniti G35 traveling east. There were two occupants in the black Infiniti, and both were hospitalized following the incident.

Three Sent to the Hospital

The drunk driver broke both of his ankles and received various chest injuries. The female driving the Infiniti suffered major injuries as well, with one broken ankle and large lacerations. She was in the vehicle with her boyfriend, who reported some pain and minor injuries.

The passenger in the Infiniti had removed himself from the wreck and was with the driver when emergency response units arrived. Brentwood Police officers, AMR paramedics, California Highway Patrol (CHP), and East Contra Costa Fire Protection District units all showed up to the accident site. The woman inside the Infiniti received on-site treatment from paramedics and firefighters and was safely taken out of the vehicle. Both her and her boyfriend were transferred to the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

The Chevrolet driver required assistance from the ECCFPD to get out of his wrecked car. A Calstar helicopter flew the male to John Muir for medical treatment. He suffered serious injuries but they were not described as life-threatening. CHP officer Brandon Correia stated that upon release from the hospital, the DUI suspect will be booked into jail. CHP officials are actively investigating this accident.

The Deadly Dangers of Mixing Alcohol with Driving

Driving under the influence continues to be a major safety hazard in the United States. Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed that someone died from an alcohol-impaired traffic accident every 50 minutes in 2016. In the same year, 28% of all accident fatalities were declared to be relating to alcohol impairment. If you have been injured by a drunk driver, legal guidance from an experienced injury lawyer can be the key component to being granted your fair compensation.
