Three Hospitalized in Napa Wreck

I’m Ed Smith, a Napa personal injury lawyer. A Napa Fire Department (NFD) report released on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, indicated that three individuals were sent to the hospital following a two-vehicle collision that occurred in Napa during rush hour the day prior.

Collision Info

NFD Captain Ty Becerra said that the accident took place at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Browns Valley Road next to Westwood Hills Park. While details regarding how the collision initially occurred were not reported, Becerra reported that the collision took place between an SUV owned by the city and a small sedan containing three occupants, identified only as two adults and a child.

The collision reportedly caused the sedan to spin out into the parking lot of the nearby park where it collided with a third vehicle that had been left in the lot. Becerra reported that the city vehicle came to a stop blocking traffic on Browns Valley Road.

Response and Injuries

Not long after the accident occurred, it was discovered by an NFD unit that had been returning to their station using Browns Valley Road after completing training exercises. Responders found that the occupants of the sedan had all sustained injuries and had them transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital to receive care. According to NFD, the injuries sustained by the occupants of the sedan ranged from minor to moderately severe.

Reports indicated that the driver of the SUV did not receive any injuries during the crash.

Investigation

An investigation is currently being conducted by Napa Police Department (NPD) in order to determine the causal factors associated with this crash. While NPD has not released any details regarding their investigation, possible causal factors include intoxicated driving, vehicle defects, driver distraction, reckless driving, lack of proper roadway signage, and more.

Government Entity Claims

Many people don’t know that filing a personal injury claim against government entities is different than filing a claim against private parties. One key difference is that, while the normal time-frame for injured parties to file a personal injury claim is two years after the incident date, a claim against a government entity must be filed within 180 days. While this law is meant to allow governments to fix hazards quickly, it often affords them an advantage over injured parties who do not know about the time constraint.

For this reason, it is a good idea to have an experienced personal injury attorney to advise you on the particular requirements of your case and ensure that you have your claim filed properly and on time. Not only will an experienced attorney know the ins and outs of government entity claims, but they will be able to make sure that you receive the full compensation you are owed for your serious injuries.
