One Killed, Three Injured in Car Accident in Anderson

I’m Ed Smith, an Anderson car accident lawyer. One man was killed, and three teens were injured in a car crash on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Police said the accident took place on Highway 299. The Shasta County Coroner’s office identified the fatally injured man as Kyle Robert Miller, a 36-year-old Anderson local.

I would like to give my condolences to Miller’s loved ones as they go through losing their close friend and family member.

Car Accident Information

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said in a report that the crash happened at around 6:40 p.m. in the area of Whiskeytown Lake. Miller had been driving east along Highway 299 in a blue-colored 1999 Chevy sedan with the three teenagers in his vehicle when he apparently lost control of the car. Miller’s car drove off the road, rolled over, and traveled over a large, steep embankment on the side of the road. The CHP said the sedan had been traveling at “a high rate of speed” before the accident took place. Officers believed Miller lost control while going through a left-hand curve on the highway.

Response and Injuries

Medics at the crash scene said the three passengers all suffered serious injuries. The passengers, 18-year-old Brandan Depoister and a 17-year-old girl, and a 16-year-old boy, were all taken to the Mercy Medical Center for treatment. Tragically, responders reported that Miller lost his life after the crash due to his injuries. The relationship between Miller and the three passengers is unknown.

Investigation

A CHP report stated that officers are investigating the cause of the accident. So far, speeding is the only factor that the CHP has mentioned. However, factors that could have contributed to the crash are various. Some possible factors include a medical emergency for the driver or his passengers, a defective vehicle part, a danger on the road, or another driver’s actions.
