Identity Released after Fairfield Motorcycle Fatality

I’m Ed Smith, a Fairfield personal injury lawyer. The Solano County Coroner’s Office released the name of a man killed in a motorcycle accident on April 14, 2018, at approximately 7:40 p.m. The deceased was identified as Jeremy Cowham, a 41-year-old resident of the nearby community of Suisun. Investigative authorities are reportedly still attempting to determine what causal factors led to the fatal accident.

Losing a loved one is never easy, and my condolences are extended to the mourning friends and family of Mr. Cowham while they endure this tragic loss.

Accident Details

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials report that Cowham had been driving his motorcycle east along Cordelia Road to the west of the Pennsylvania Avenue intersection. Reports indicate that Cowham had been proceeding at an accelerated rate of speed when his bike traveled off the roadway. After exiting the road, Cowham’s motorcycle collided with a cattle fence off of the roadway’s right-hand shoulder.

The collision caused Cowham to be thrown off of his motorcycle. Responding emergency personnel report that Cowham lost his life at the scene of the motorcycle accident due to severe injuries. Additionally, CHP indicated in public reports that no other vehicles were involved in this collision.

Investigation

Investigating authorities from CHP have stated that they have not yet determined what caused this accident to happen and an investigation into the accident remained ongoing as of Monday, April 16, 2018. Factors possibly involved in this accident and currently under investigation include vehicle malfunction, driver fatigue, roadway hazards and/or defects, and more.

Individuals who believe they may have information that could help CHP determine causal factors related to this motorcycle accident have been asked to contact the Solano Area CHP Office’s non-emergency phone line at 707-428-2100. Callers can also use 1-800-TELL-CHP to report what they know.

Auto Products Liability

In many cases, vehicle accidents occur when a vehicle part malfunctions. Malfunctioning accelerators, steering systems, indicators, wheels, and many other auto parts can easily cause a severe collision if they aren’t adequately manufactured and installed correctly.

For this reason, vehicle sellers, retailers, and manufacturers can often be considered at-fault parties in the case of a severe or fatal injury accident and can be held liable to pay for damages and injuries related to the crash.

The types of damages that at-fault parties can be held responsible for in a case of wrongful death are numerous and include recompenses for losses such as loss of financial support, loss of inheritance, loss of parental care, loss of companionship, medical costs related to the accident, funeral costs, and more.
