Ukiah Area Man Killed in Highway Accident

I’m Ed Smith, a Ukiah car accident lawyer. A Mendocino County man was driving his vehicle during the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 13, 2018. Unfortunately, the man lost his life in an unforeseen single vehicle accident.

My thoughts and sympathy are with the man’s family and friends as they mourn the loss of their loved one.

Accident Information

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) released a report regarding a traffic accident shortly after it occurred. The report indicates that a Willits man was driving a 2004 Cadillac eastbound along Highway 20 approaching the intersection of Hollands Avenue at approximately 1:45 a.m. Before reaching the intersection, the Cadillac drifted off of the roadway for unknown reasons. The vehicle traveled down an embankment and came to a rest after colliding with a large tree. The impact of the collision reportedly caused the driver to be ejected through the front windshield of the Cadillac.

Emergency Response

Emergency personnel was contacted to the accident site to render aid. Medical crews found that the driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the collision. Sadly, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene due to the severity of his sustained injuries.

Investigation

Authorities from CHP reported that they are still investigating the accident to determine liabilities. Officials have noted that the collision took place during inclement conditions and indicated that the weather may have contributed to the driver’s loss of control. It is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol were a part of the crash.

Identity of Victim

The man has not yet been identified as county officials wait to notify his family.

Dangers of Rainy Roads

Rainy weather presents specific dangers for drivers of passenger vehicles, large trucks, and motorcyclists alike and does so for a variety of reasons. One major reason that rainy roads can be dangerous for motor vehicles is that the layer of water between a vehicle’s tires and the roadway reduces traction, increasing a driver’s risk of losing control. Another area for concern from inclement weather conditions is low visibility. Heavy rainfall can make it difficult for motorists to see obstacles in the roadway such as potholes, animals, and other objects. Therefore, it is important for drivers to adjust their speed and be aware of their surroundings during poor weather conditions to ensure their safety.
