Identity Released in Eureka Car Accident Fatality

I’m Ed Smith, a Eureka car accident lawyer. The Eureka man who was fatally injured during a local collision involving a tractor-trailer was identified by county officials on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, following his family’s notification. The man was identified as 24-year-old Edward Moses.

My condolence and sympathy are extended to Moses’ loved ones during this difficult time.

Accident Review

A California Highway Patrol (CHP) report indicates the incident occurred at around 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2018. Moses was reported to have been driving his 1991 Mazda pickup truck north on Myrtle Avenue to the north of the Pigeon Point Road intersection. While driving on Myrtle, Moses’s vehicle traveled off the roadway’s eastern side for reasons that remain unclear.

After his vehicle drifted off of the road, Moses apparently attempted to correct his vehicle. However, he over-corrected and consequently drove his truck across both lanes of the highway before striking a metal guardrail on the western side of the road. After striking the guardrail, Moses’ vehicle continued north in Myrtle Avenue’s southbound lane, eventually entering the direct path of an oncoming big-rig.

The big rig struck the pickup head-on. The vehicles reportedly came to a complete stop blocking both highway lanes.

Fatal Trauma

Responding medical officers found Moses alive but with serious injuries. Moses was transported to the St. Joseph Hospital where he was provided with emergency care. Sadly, Moses was not able to be stabilized by doctors and passed away not long after arriving at the hospital.

The big-rig driver and Moses’ dog, who had been in the pickup during the crash, were not injured.

Continuing Investigation

As of Tuesday, March 6, 2018, CHP is still actively investigating this accident. The only additional investigation information that CHP has released so far is that Moses was found to have not been wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred.

Accident factors that still remain under investigation include driver intoxication, malfunctioning parts, a medical emergency, a dangerous defect of the road, fatigued driving, and more. Accident witnesses and people who may know information relevant to this collision have been encouraged to contact CHP by calling their local non-emergency number at (707) 822-5981.

Wrongful Death

Those who depend emotionally and/or financially on individuals who are killed in car accidents face a difficult struggle in dealing with day-to-day challenges without the support of their loved one. Because of this, things outside of daily life can seem completely unmanageable.

However, calling a lawyer is something you should do as soon as you are able. Calling a lawyer may initially seem like a burden, but an experienced accident attorney will be able to make things as easy for you as possible while ensuring that you receive the compensation you need from any responsible parties.
