Fatally Injured Redding Pedestrian Identified

I’m Ed Smith, a Redding car accident attorney. On Tuesday, March 13, 2018, the Shasta County Coroner’s Office identified a man who was fatally struck by a vehicle while walking across a Redding highway last month.

The man was identified as a Victor Becerra Salazar, a 44-year-old resident of Redding.

I’d like to express my condolences to Salazar’s loved ones.

Collision Information

According to official reports from Redding Police Department (RPD), the collision occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. RPD Officer Dennis Mack indicated that Salazar had been crossing Highway 237 on foot close to Branstetter Lane between South Bonneyview Road and Kenyon Drive.

Mack noted that Salazar had not been crossing the highway in a marked pedestrian crossing area when he was struck by northbound 2003 Hyundai Elantra. The name of the driver, who was not injured in the accident, has not yet been publicly released.

Fatal Injuries

Emergency responders at the accident scene said that Salazar was found with life-threatening trauma. Medics attempted to perform life-saving maneuvers on Salazar but were unable to help him. Sadly, he passed away on-scene.

The particular nature of Salazar’s injuries was not reported by medical officials.

Causal Factors

It appears no criminal activity was involved in the collision. An initial report has ruled out drunk driving.

As the investigation continues, possible factors to investigate include malfunctioning vehicle parts, low visibility conditions, roadway defects, driver fatigue and/or distracted driving. It usually takes about 10 days for the investigating agency to release their findings.

Losing Someone in an Auto Accident

When a person is killed in an auto accident, their loved ones often feel despondent. For those grieving, it can be difficult to handle the tasks of everyday life and things like dealing with the legal aspects of a wrongful death claim can seem overwhelming. However, calling a wrongful death lawyer is a vital step in recovering compensation against the at-fault driver for the loss of your loved one.

A lawyer with experience handling wrongful death cases will be able to prevent liable parties from disclaiming responsibility for the accident while allowing you to focus on healing emotionally.

Additionally, the types of damages that a lawyer can help you to recover may not seem immediately obvious. Individuals who are able to bring a claim for wrongful death can often recover a wide variety of damages. For more information contact an experienced attorney.
