Davis Accident Leaves Man with Life-Threatening Injuries

I’m Ed Smith, a Davis car accident attorney. On Saturday, February 3, 2018, an unidentified man from Woodland received catastrophic injuries in an early-morning auto accident that involved multiple vehicles.

Accident Information

Reports from California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicate that the collision occurred at approximately 1:10 a.m. on Highway 113 a short distance south of the junction located at County Road 29 near Teichert Construction and the Davis Golf Course. The man had been driving his 2005 Toyota Tundra when he attempted to pass a 2008 Chevrolet sedan on the southbound side of the highway.

As the driver of the Toyota attempted to make his passing maneuver, his vehicle allegedly drifted into the sedan’s traffic lane and clipped its front side. After this, the driver of the Toyota oversteered and subsequently lost control of the truck. The truck then veered sharply southwest and exited the roadway. After exiting the road, the truck collided with a chain-link fence and overturned multiple times before finally coming to a stop on its roof in the middle of County Road 29.

Injuries

Emergency medical response personnel at the scene of the accident found the 27-year-old driver of the Toyota with life-threatening injuries and had him immediately transported by ground ambulance to the nearest hospital to receive vital emergency medical care. Responders said that the man was found to have not been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, which may have contributed to the severity of his injuries.

The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet, a 60-year-old male and 57-year-old female from Vacaville, reportedly sustained minor injuries during the crash but were not taken to a hospital.

Investigation

This incident remains under active investigation by CHP. Officers have not yet stated whether or not DUI was a factor in the collision. Factors under investigation are numerous and include driver distraction, vehicle malfunctions due to faulty parts, medical emergencies, speeding, and more.

Rollover Accidents

Safercar.gov, a website created by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), wrote that rollovers are one of the most fatal types of collisions. Their data shows that, while an average of only 2 percent of all U.S. auto accidents involves an overturned vehicle, almost 35 percent of auto accident fatalities involve rollovers.

Additionally, the wide majority of individuals who are fatally injured in rollover accidents are found to have not been wearing seatbelts.
