South Lake Tahoe Crash Injures One

I’m Ed Smith, a South Lake Tahoe car accident lawyer. Area First Responders indicated that one individual was seriously injured in an auto accident in South Lake Tahoe on Sunday, January 6, 2018.

Collision Details

South Lake Tahoe Fire and Rescue reported that the accident occurred at the intersection of Saddle Road and Pioneer Trail some distance south of the Ski Run Boulevard crossing. The accident reportedly occurred in the late morning.

Only one vehicle was found at the scene of the accident. Photos show that the vehicle is a white SUV or truck and that the vehicle sustained major damage to its front end as a result of the collision. Much of the front end of the large passenger vehicle was apparently torn off entirely. Photos also show that the vehicle’s airbags did deploy.

Response and Injury

Responders who were dispatched to the accident scene found the driver injured and trapped inside the vehicle. After extricating the driver from the vehicle’s wreckage, responders reported that they had the driver transported to a nearby hospital by ground ambulance so that they could receive proper medical treatment and screening.

Officials reported that the driver had been in stable condition during the ambulance ride. However, specifics about the driver’s injuries, as well as updates on their condition, have not been reported so far.

Investigation

Authorities are investigating this auto accident in order to gain a better understanding of what may have caused it to occur. Officers have not stated whether or not driving while intoxicated by alcohol or other intoxicating substances to have been a causal factor of the crash.

There are many factors that may have been at play in this incident. One possibility is that a phantom vehicle was involved. This means that another vehicle on the roadway made a dangerous maneuver, caused the crashed vehicle to veer off the road, and drove away.

Other possible causal factors include driver distraction, dangerous conditions of the roadway, malfunctioning vehicle parts such as turning systems and brakes, a medical emergency, driving over the speed limit, and more.

Driver Distraction

Distraction is estimated to cause over 3,000 deaths and over 350,000 injuries in the U.S. Every year and many individuals admit to driving while texting even though they know that it diminishes their ability to avoid major accidents.

When drivers aren’t paying full attention to the road, they often cause accidents that could have been avoidable. Driver distraction isn’t limited to the use of cell phones and includes things like eating, adjusting the settings on a car stereo, applying makeup, looking at a map, and more. If you feel a need to perform an action while driving that would divert your attention from the road, consider pulling over or asking a passenger to help – doing so could prevent a serious auto accident.
