Modesto Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident
I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto car accident lawyer. An elderly pedestrian was struck and killed in Modesto during the early morning of Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Reports indicate that a motorist collided with the pedestrian and fled the scene upon impact, leaving the victim to succumb to his injuries without rendering assitance or calling 9-1-1.
We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family members of Mr. Henderson who passed away in this unfathomable tragedy.
Authorities were contacted by a jogger in the area of Tully Road and Palmilla Drive to report a man sleeping in the roadway at approximately 5:30 am. Upon arrival, police discovered an unresponsive man with visible injuries at the entrance of Big Valley Church along Tully Road. Officials suspected foul play and immediately conducted an accident investigation.
Victim Suffers Fatal Injuries
Identity of Victim
Officials have identified the victim of the fatal pedestrian accident as 66-year-old Gregory Henderson.
The Modesto Police Department is the agency in charge of the pedestrian accident investigation. Based on evidence gathered at the scene, investigators were able to identify the suspect vehicle as a 2001 to 2003 Honda Civic coupe. The vehicle is believed to have sustained major front-end damage along with a broken windshield as a result of hitting the pedestrian. If you have any information about this incident, please contact Modesto Police Department.
Uninsured Motorist Insurance
Most auto policies also have uninsured motorist insurance which can provide coverage in a hit and run accident. If the injured or deceased person had auto insurance, he typically has uninsured motorist insurance in California unless he signed a written waiver declining coverage. This coverage would typically pay for expenses associated with the hit-and-run fatality.
Anyone Living in the Household of the Deceased
If a roommate or family member living where an injured or deceased person resides has auto insurance, the uninsured motorist coverage usually extends to anyone living in the same household. For more information, contact and experienced personal injury lawyer.
Hit-and-Run Accidents and Wrongful Death
Leaving the scene of an auto accident can result in a number of penalties. When a party has been involved in an accident, they are obligated to remain at the scene and wait for officers or medical personnel to arrive. Failure to do so may result in a misdemeanor or felony charge usually based on the severity of the collision. If you have lost a loved one due to a hit-and-run accident, it is important to discuss the details of your case with a Modesto personal injury lawyer. An experienced attorney can utilize investigative techniques to help determine the identity of the hit and run driver and explore insurance coverage that may be available to cover expenses resulting from the collision and loss of life.
