Accident Seriously Injures Three Near Merced County

I’m Ed Smith, a personal injury lawyer in Merced. Three people were traveling together by car near Los Banos during the early morning hours of Monday, January 1, 2017. The three were involved in a traffic accident which, sadly, caused them all to suffer traumatic injuries.

We hope and wish for a quick and full recovery for the three parties that were injured in this auto accident.

What Happened?

A Salinas man was driving his black Toyota Camry northbound along Interstate 5 in the vicinity of the Russell Avenue off-ramp at approximately 7:40 am. For unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off the roadway and collided with the center divider. The impact of the collision caused the vehicle to overturn several times. Unfortunately, the driver and his two passengers were ejected from the vehicle upon impact.

Nature of Injuries

Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of the auto accident. Upon arrival, crews offered medical assistance to the three injured parties. The three parties all suffered serious  injuries and were transported to an area hospital in Fresno for treatment of their injuries. An update on their condition has not yet been released by officials.

What Caused the Accident?

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). According to preliminary reports, investigators do not suspect that alcohol or drugs were involved in the collision.

Passenger Injury Claims

Being involved in an auto accident as a passenger may be a confusing and frightening experience, especially if you suffered injuries as a result. Passengers are entitled to compensation for damages resulting from an accident by filing a claim against the automobile insurance policy of the at-fault driver, the vehicle they were riding in or even their own policy under certain circumstances. A passenger may resort to their own insurance policy if they have Uninsured/Under-Insured Motorist Protection (UM) in the event of an at-fault party having minimal policy limits or no insurance policy at all. The statute of limitations in the state of California is two years for personal injury. Therefore, an injured passenger must file a claim within two years from the date of their injury or their claim may be denied if the deadline is not met. Contacting an experienced Merced car accident lawyer is crucial in securing fair compensation for incurred losses.
