Public Hearing for New BART Stations in Antioch and Pittsburg

I’m Ed Smith, a Pittsburg Personal Injury Lawyer. The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) will soon be implementing parking fees and travel fares for two brand new stations, one located in Pittsburg and the other in Antioch. Did I mention that all residents of East County will have the opportunity to have their voice heard in the decision making process of fare prices and parking fees? If this seems too good to be true, try again! Further details are discussed below.

BART Board Meeting For Public Discussion

On Thursday, November 16, 2017, there will be a BART board meeting to openly discuss proposed travel fares for trips that are to and from the Antioch station and the Pittsburg Center station. In addition, there will be conversation regarding the potential prices of parking fees at these two new stations.

The public county hearing is going to be held at the Oakland BART headquarters. If you would like to voice your opinion before then or are unable to attend the hearing, all residents are encouraged to contact Joel Keller, the BART Director that represents both Antioch and Pittsburg communities. He can be contacted through email at Joel.Keller@bart.gov or by dialing 510-915-7925.

Possible Fares for Antioch and Pittsburg BART Stations

Here are some example fares that BART is strongly considering:

Possible Parking Prices for Antioch and Pittsburg BART Stations

Here is a list of the potential parking fees that BART is strongly considering:

  • Daily Parking Fee: $3.00
  • Reserved Permit – Daily: $6.00
  • Reserved Permit – Monthly: $105.00
  • Long term/Airport Permit: $7.00 every day

When it comes to parking in any of the 1,012 stalls located at the Antioch station, just east from the Hillcrest Avenue exit off Highway 4, prices will vary depending on your permit (if any) and the length of your stay. The monthly permits will only be distributed for Antioch stations.

These fees (if approved) will apply to all of the parking spaces found in the Bliss Avenue lot nearby the Pittsburg Center Station. However, the Pittsburg Center Station has significantly less spots than the Antioch station, with a total of 262 spaces.

Final Decision in December

The BART board is expected to come to a final decision regarding the Antioch and Pittsburg eBART fares and parking prices at a meeting that will take place on Thursday, December 7th. Out of the nine directors, there must be two-thirds vote in favor of adopting these policies.
