Community Events in Great Benicia

Benicia is a small, historic city on the edge of the northern San Francisco Bay Area with a close-knit community and a unique bayside character. Though residents can easily escape to major cities for entertainment, there are plenty of great in-town events run by Benicia organizations. Some fun and upcoming community events are detailed below.

Benicia Hand Up Turkey Trot

On November 23, 2017, Benicia will be hosting its first annual Hand Up Turkey Trot. The Trot is a run/walk through the city of Benicia as well as a series of fun family events including drawing stations for kids to make their own turkeys and a raffle for run participants.

The run is a 5-kilometer un-timed trot and will include water stations along the way to keep participants hydrated. There will also be a medic on-site in case any medical issues arise.

The event begins at 8:00 a.m. at 540 Rose Drive in Benicia.

Benicia Holiday Open House and Tree Lighting

Local organizations at Benicia Main Street, in cooperation with merchants on First Street, will be hosting the ever-popular open house and Christmas tree lighting in Downtown Benicia on December 1, 2017. Merchants will offer attendees treats and beverages, wear costumes, and sing traditional Christmas music while they display their holiday goods.

The event will include live performances of Christmas music, wagon rides, and a Christmas tree lighting in a location with a view of the Carquinez Strait. The event is free to attend, family-friendly, and begins at 6:00 p.m. and will continue until 9:00 p.m.

Benicia Chamber Players Performance

The Benicia Chamber Players will be performing chamber music in the beautiful, historic Benicia State Capitol building in downtown Benicia on December 3, 2017. Benicia Chamber Players features highly experienced musicians from all around the bay area and the program will include several pieces by revered composers.

The pieces scheduled to be performed at this concert include Brahms’ Second String Quartet in A Minor performed by the Kodaly Duo for cello and violin. The program has been made possible by support from local business Mozart, Einstein, and Me and the Benicia Capitol State Historic Park.

Benicia Christmas Parade and Holiday Market

On December 9, 2017, the city of Benicia will be putting on a Christmas parade accompanied by a market featuring local, handcrafted art, food, and boutique items. The parade will include local marching bands, dance crews, and an appearance from Santa Claus himself.
