Volkswagen Fuel Pump Failure Recall

 Volkswagen Fuel Pump Failure Recall

Certain Volkswagen vehicles have been affected by a recent recall issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The reason for the recall stems from a defect in the fuel pump control module, resulting in a potential engine stall. It is important to take every recall seriously and address the issue promptly to ensure your safety.

Recall Details

Approximately 280,915 vehicles have been recalled by the manufacturer, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., due to possible fuel pump failure. Investigation reports have concluded that an interruption has been found in the electrical power supporting the fuel pump control module. Such interruptions can cause the fuel pump to fail, resulting in engine failure and increased risk of an automobile accident.

What is a Fuel Pump?

An essential component of a motor vehicle with an internal combustion engine is the fuel pump. The fuel pump is found by the fuel tank of the automobile. A fuel pump works by distributing the necessary quantity of fuel from the fuel tank to the engine at the required pressure. The most notable signs of a failed fuel pump are found when driving. Symptoms such as excessive fuel consumption, thermostat temperature reading fluctuation and engine stall are all signs of a deteriorating fuel pump.

Fuel Pump Repair Costs

Fuel pump repairs come with an expensive price tag. Car models have drastically changed due to advances in technology. Modern vehicles equipped with electric fuel pumps can only add on to the cost. It is important to look for the signs of a failing fuel pump as a safety precaution to avoid problems on the road.

Which Vehicles?

The following vehicles are affected by the fuel pump failure recall:

  • 2006 to 2010: Volkswagen Passat Sedan, Passat Wagon Vehicles
  • 2009 to 2016: Volkswagen CC
