Keeping Folsom Roadways Safe

I’m Ed Smith, a Folsom car accident lawyer. The city Manager of Folsom, Evert Palmer, wrote in a recent public statement that transportation has long been an important part of creating and keeping an excellent quality of life in the city of Folsom. While not only being convenient, safe and well-planned roads are a benefit to the whole city and their effects are felt in business communities as well as neighborhoods.

Palmer noted that neighborhood streets connect people and create a sense of community while commercial corridors are relied on to safely move local traffic to the city’s economic hubs. Palmer also said that safe streets are a critical part of the livability of communities in Folsom and that the city is dedicated to ensuring that streets are the safest they can be for motorists, bicyclists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians.

Public Works Projects

For these reasons, including recent data showing an increase in speeding violations, the city of Folsom’s Public Works Department is currently working to improve traffic safety at multiple locations throughout the city. The improvements that the city is making, Palmer noted, have been determined to be the most effective solutions through a process of data analysis which included looking at collision factors and circumstances as well as the effectiveness of various options.

Empire Ranch Signals

One roadway that the city has decided to improve is Empire Ranch Road. The city will be installing five new traffic signals at various points on the road this fall in order to reduce vehicle speeds to 45 miles per hour.

The planned signals will also feature cutting edge technology that will give priority to emergency vehicles. These signals, Palmer explained, will be important in critical time-sensitive situations and will work in conjunction with vehicles at the new fire stations opening on Richie Street and Empire Ranch Road.

Empire Ranch Pedestrian Safety

The Empire Ranch Road project is also meant to improve safety for pedestrians who frequently use crosswalks near Russel Ranch Elementary school. The new signals will replace four-way stops with new pedestrian-activated crosswalk signals that will better alert drivers to the presence of pedestrians in the roadway. Additionally, the area will receive numerous traffic-taming improvements including additional stop signs near Hildebrand Circle.

Other projects

The city will also be constructing additional traffic signals at intersections on Silberhorn and Golf Links Drives as well as new signals and crosswalks at Coloma and East Bidwell Streets that will improve access to Sutter Middle School as well as improve the general safety of pedestrians in the area.

Additional projects include the conversion of one of the city’s through lanes into a lane exclusively for left turns near the Clarksville Road Folsom Sports Complex and traffic flow improvements at East Bidwell Street close to Highway 50.
