Community Events in Vallejo

Vallejo is a historic Bay Area city with rich culture and easy access to San Francisco and other major Bay Area cities. However, residents enjoy many exciting and fun community events within the city’s limits year-round. In the following blog, some events happening in the upcoming month are listed.

Free Family Movie Night

Vallejo’s own theme park for young ones, the Children’s Wonderland, is hosting a free screening of Disney Pixar’s “The Good Dinosaur.” Families are invited to come to the park with their children at 7:30 p.m. to enjoy a sunset at the park as well as a fun, family friendly movie. The event takes place at 360 Glen Street on Saturday, August 12, 2017.

Shakespeare in the Park Fundraiser Play

On Friday, August 18, 2017, the Vallejo Shakespeare in the Park group is putting on a production in order to raise funding for its free summer play series. Local director Cate Muzaffar will be directing the group in a rendition of “Titus Andronicus” at Vallejo’s Venue 29 located at 2100 Sonoma Boulevard. The show begins at 8:00 p.m. and costs 20 dollars per ticket.

Free Family Day at the Museum

On Saturday, August 19, 2017, Vallejo’s Naval and Historical Museum will be admitting visitors for free. Those who visit the museum will be able to learn about one of the nation’s oldest naval bases and see exhibits featuring artifacts from the earliest days of California’s statehood. The museum will be open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Additionally, the author of a book on Vallejo’s history as a naval and shipping center titled “Lower Georgia Street; California’s Forgotten Barbary Coast” will be at the museum signing copies of his book.

NightMARE Island Volunteer Orientation

Those interested in volunteering at Vallejo’s annual NightMARE Island event are invited to come to the Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve on Sunday, August 20, 2017. The event is a haunted house held near the creepy abandoned naval shipyard of Mare Island.

Volunteers can help build ghastly sets, dress up as Zombies and guide visitors through the event, promote the event, and more. Training will begin at 2:00 p.m. and go until 4:00 p.m. at 167 O’Hara Ct. at Railroad Avenue in Vallejo

Kayak Practice and Fun

The Vallejo Kayaking and Biking Group meets every Sunday at different locations around Vallejo for safety training and beginner practice on Kayaks. Although meeting times are sometimes adjusted to take advantage of the tide, the group meets around noon and offers donation-based use of kayaks and gear to attendees.
