Vallejo Collision Injures Pregnant Woman

I’m Ed Smith, a Vallejo car accident lawyer. On Sunday, August 13, 2017, an accident in Vallejo caused multiple individuals to receive traumatic injuries. Officials reported that a pregnant woman was among the individuals who received injuries.

Accident Details

According to info reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident happened at around 5:50 p.m. on the eastbound side of Highway Interstate 80 at Vallejo’s Carquinez Bridge. Officers reported that the collision was between two vehicles and identified them as a white-colored Nissan and a silver-colored Honda Pilot.

Exactly how the vehicles collided with each other has not been made clear by authorities. CHP did, however, indicate that two of the Honda’s tires were blown out. This may have been a result of the accident or may have been a contributing factor.

Injuries and Response

After they received a phone call alerting them to  an injury accident, CHP sent emergency responders to the scene. Emergency responders discovered that both of the drivers involved in the crash had been injured in this accident.

CHP reports indicate that an ambulance was sent to provide medical care to the injured motorists. The extent of the motorist’s injuries has not yet been reported and it remains unclear if either of them were hospitalized.

Investigation

Officers are actively investigating possible causes of the collision. Additionally, CHP has not made any statements about whether or not DUI was involved in the accident. Possible causes of this type of collision include speeding, unsafe roadway conditions, unsafe lane changes, reckless driving, fatigued driving, and more.

Accidents and Pregnancy

One of the top 3 leading causes of trauma related to pregnancy in the United States is car accidents. Being injured while pregnant can lead to serious complications which include placental abruption (when a placenta breaks away from the wall of the uterus), preterm labor, and the necessity for caesarian delivery. Also, infants birthed by mothers who have been injured are proven to be more likely to be born before they are due.

Changes to the pregnant body might also affect the seriousness of injuries. Pregnancy can decrease blood pressure, increase blood volume, decrease gastric mobility, soften ligaments, and more. All of these changes can make being injured in an accident even more serious.

Seeking Care

Pregnant women involved in car accidents should always seek medical attention, even if they don’t have any apparent injuries. Many fetal injuries don’t have noticeable symptoms, but can still cause serious birth complications. Getting checked by a medical professional is the safest way to ensure that both you and your child are healthy after being in a collision. Once you have visited the doctor, contact a Vallejo car accident lawyer to file an accident claim.
