Fatal Single Vehicle Collision Near Modesto

I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto wrongful death lawyer. An Oakdale man was driving in Riverbank during the evening hours of Saturday, July 1, 2017. Sadly, the man allegedly lost control of his vehicle, which resulted in a devastating and fatal car accident.

What Happened?

A 50-year-old man from Oakdale was behind the wheel of his 1999 Dodge Intrepid traveling eastbound along Highway 108 in the vicinity of Mesa Drive at approximately 6:00 pm. For unknown reasons, the car veered out of control. The driver’s side of the vehicle collided with a stop sign, utility pole guide wire and a tree. The car came to a stop facing west along the side of the roadway.

Witnesses Rescue Young Passenger

The impact of the collision allegedly caused the car to catch fire. People that were passing by the scene of the accident stopped their vehicle to assist the injured victims. They were able to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher from their car. Witnesses were able to rescue a 9-year-old boy from the rear passenger seat in the vehicle, however, they were unable to assist the driver. Unfortunately, the motorist suffered fatal injuries from the accident.

We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the man that passed away in this tragic crash.

What Caused the Accident?

The cause of the car accident is under investigation. It usually takes authorities from seven to ten days to process a Traffic Collision Report. However, investigators from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) suspect that the motorist may have been driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. It is important to note that traffic reports may sometimes contain errors or be inconclusive when determining fault. This may leave the loved ones of those who have lost a loved one with several unanswered questions. It is important to contact an experienced Modesto wrongful death lawyer who can conduct a through investigation of the crash scene and study the sequence of events leading up to the collision.
