Live-Streamed Crash Fatally Injures Stockton Teen

I’m Ed Smith, a Stockton personal injury lawyer. A single vehicle collision occurred north of Los Banos during the evening of Friday, July 21, 2017. Sadly, the crash caused one young victim to suffer traumatic injuries and another victim to suffer fatal injuries.

What Happened?

An 18-year-old Stockton woman was behind the wheel of her white Buick Century traveling along Henry Miller Road in the vicinity of Mercey Springs Road. The motorist was allegedly live-streaming a video on her Instagram account moments before losing control of her vehicle after over-correcting a turn. The vehicle rolled several times through a barbed wire fence and came to a rest in a field near Highway 165 and Henry Miller Road.

Was Anybody Injured?

There were two fourteen-year-old girls in the rear passenger seats of the Buick Century at the time of the collision. Authorities reported that both young girls were allegedly not wearing seat belts.

One of the fourteen-year-old girls was identified as a resident of Fresno. The Fresno teen suffered major leg injuries as a result of the crash. The other fourteen-year-old girl, identified as the sister of the driver, was ejected out of the vehicle through the rear windshield. Unfortunately, the young sibling succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Our condolences are with the family members of the young girl that passed away in this tragic accident. We hope and pray for a full and quick recovery for the other injured victim.

Viewer discretion is advised for the following video. This video demonstrates the serious extent of this single vehicle collision. The video also shows footage of the driver’s live-stream video on her Instagram account, which was recorded by one of her followers and submitted to officials by other viewers.

What Caused the Crash?

An exact cause of the crash has not yet been ruled on by authorities. A Traffic Collision Report usually takes up to two weeks to be processed. Investigators reported that drunk driving played a role in this accident. The driver of the vehicle was booked into the Merced County Jail and faces charges of vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence.

Young Life Forever Remembered

The 14-year-old Stockton girl passed away two days before her quinceañera birthday celebration. A weekend of celebration unfortunately resulted in a devastating tragedy for the family members of this young girl. She will be forever remembered by everyone that loved her for her beautiful, bright and loving personality.  The loved ones of the young girl have set up a GoFundMe account to cover the expenses of her funeral.
