Thousand Oaks Resident Killed in Ventura County Plane Crash
I’m Ed Smith, a Thousand Oaks personal injury lawyer. The victim of a light plane crash north of the city of Ventura on June 1 has been identified as a Thousand Oaks resident by the identification number on the plane. It is unknown where the airplane was coming from or where it was going at the time of the accident.
I want to extend my sympathy to the family in this, their time of sorrow.
The plane accident occurred shortly before 12:00 p.m. when the Cessna 180 crashed in the hilly area near Emma Wood State Beach. The fire department for Ventura County was notified of the crash by several witnesses. One witness was up in the hills hiking, and the other was on Solimar Beach at the time. Another man reported that he was at the beach fishing and spotted the airplane flying low when it went down. He also stated that something landed near him. A spokesman for the FAA was the person who identified the airplane and said it seated between four and six persons. These planes were manufactured between 1953 and 1981. Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board and FAA arrived to investigate the crash, which is being conducted by the NTSB.
Rumor About Two Planes Colliding
Initial reports by witnesses talked about a mid-air collision between two airplanes. However, a spokesman for the fire department said that it appeared that only one plane was involved. One problem with the ongoing investigation may be the extensive debris field that was found. Part of the fuselage is located on an oil lease where the man died. Debris was also deposited on the beach located on the other side of U.S. Route 101. Parts of the beach have been closed off while the investigation continues.
Air Accidents Are a Specialized Field
As an experienced airplane crash attorney, I understand the complexity and knowledge needed to determine fault. For example, the manufacturer of the plane may be liable for a defective part, or maintenance and repairs were left undone or done improperly. When faced with an injury or death caused by negligence, an attorney who is well versed in this type of accident can help recover fair compensation from the negligent party/parties.
