Hyundai Parking Brake Indicator Recall
I’m Ed Smith, a Stockton personal injury lawyer. The Japanese automaker, Hyundai, has issued a recall for parking brake switches on some of their best-selling vehicles. The recall affects nearly 161,074 vehicles on the road today.
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) has created a recall for a defect in the parking brake indicator in some of their sedans. The safety issue from this defective part stems from the motorist applying the parking brake and the parking brake indicator not illuminating as intended. The driver may drive the vehicle with the parking brake on, increasing the risk of a car accident.
The following vehicles are affected by the parking brake indicator recall:
- 2015 to 2016: Hyundai Genesis
- 2015 to 2016: Hyundai Sonata
The manufacturer will notify owners of the affected vehicles. Owners may take their cars to the dealers to replace the parking brake switch, at no charge. The initiation date of the recall is June 30, 2017. Owners may contact the Hyundai customer service line at (855) 671-3059 for more information.
The term “motor vehicle safety”, as defined in Title 49 Chapter 301 of the United States Code for Motor Vehicle Safety, relates to the performance of a motor vehicle or motor vehicle equipment that is intended to protect vehicle occupants against the risk of injury or death resulting from a car accident caused by a safety defect. A safety defect is generally defined as a problem that originates in a motor vehicle or part of motor vehicle equipment that apposes a risk to motor vehicle safety and may exist in specific year and model vehicles with the same manufacture or design. A few examples of defects that are considered as a concern for vehicle occupant safety include air bags that may not deploy as intended, accelerator controls breaking or sticking and fuel system components that may result in a fuel leak that can cause a vehicle fire. If your vehicle has been affected by a recall, it is best to contact your local dealer to seek a remedy for the problem. Be sure to never skip out on a recall to ensure the safety of you and your loved ones. For more information, contact an experienced personal injury lawyer.
