Merced Deputy Injured in Car Accident

An on-duty deputy from the Merced County Sheriff’s Department was patrolling in Merced during the evening hours of Saturday, June 17, 2017. The deputy was involved in a car accident with two Merced teens which caused them all to suffer traumatic injuries.

What Happened?

A 19-year-old man was behind the wheel of his 1998 silver Honda Civic traveling westbound along Alexander Avenue in the vicinity of G Street. At the same time, a sheriff’s deputy was driving a 2017 Ford Explorer patrol vehicle southbound along G Street. One of the parties allegedly ran a red light at the intersection, which resulted in a serious automobile accident. The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to sustain extensive damage.

Were They Okay?

The deputy suffered injuries following the accident and was taken to a local hospital. The deputy was later released with some aches and pains. Unfortunately, the 19-year-old man and his 17-year-old passenger were both transported to a hospital to be treated for critical injuries. The status of their conditions has not been yet been released.

What Caused the Accident?

The exact cause of the car accident is still under investigation. A Traffic Collision Report usually takes from seven to ten days to be processed. Investigators did reveal that they suspect that one of the parties drove through a red light. Authorities also indicated that alcohol and drugs did not play a role in the collision.

Accidents Involving Government Vehicles

If you or a loved one has been involved in a government vehicle accident, a claim is required to be filed within 180 days or 6 months of the date of the accident. The statute of limitations is typically two years for personal injury claims. However, the statute of limitations is reduced to a significantly lower time frame for accidents involving government entities. It is crucial to contact an experienced personal injury lawyer to assist you in protecting your rights.
