Paradise Multi-Vehicle DUI Collision

Paradise Multi-Vehicle DUI Collision

I’m Ed Smith, a Paradise car accident lawyer. A multi-vehicle collision took place in Paradise during the evening hours of Saturday, April 29, 2017. Unfortunately, the accident caused multiple victims to suffer traumatic injuries.

What Happened?

A man was driving his 1985 GMC westbound along Skyway in the vicinity of Cliffhanger Road. The man’s vehicle had broken down along the roadway, causing a traffic hazard to other drivers. Two men traveling in a 2000 Chevrolet stopped to help the man move his GMC off the roadway. California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer, James Price approached the two vehicles and parked his vehicle behind the disabled vehicle. The officer left the warning lights of his patrol car on to alert oncoming motorists.

A man was speeding westbound along Skyway in his Tesla when he crashed into the rear-end of the patrol vehicle. The impact of the collision propelled the patrol car into the two men that initially pulled over to help the man move his car off the road and the CHP officer. Shortly after, a Paradise woman was driving westbound along Skyway when she crashed into the Chevrolet and the GMC.

Multi-Vehicle Collision Injures Six

The two men in the Chevrolet were identified as Ryan Wall and Tyler Motherwell. Motherwell suffered major injuries including a back injury. Wall suffered moderate injuries which included a facial laceration and muscle damage in his legs. The 44-year-old CHP Officer from Chico, James Price and the man driving the Tesla, 40-year-old Benjamin Lucas from Chico, both suffered major injuries resulting from the collision.

The driver of the GMC was identified as 59-year-old Patrick Mulgrew from Paradise. The woman driving the Toyota was identified as 22-year-old Hayley Bauman from Paradise. Bauman and Mulgrew suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision.

The multi-vehicle collision caused all six parties to suffer injuries. They were all transported to the Enloe Medical Center in Chico for treatment.

Authorities Detain DUI Drivers

According to authorities, Benjamin Lucas and Hayley Bauman were both detained for driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury.
