Oxnard Woman in Guarded Condition After Pedestrian Accident

I’m Ed Smith, an Oxnard car accident lawyer. An Oxnard pedestrian, struck by a motor vehicle in the city on April 30, remains hospitalized. According to a representative of the Ventura County Medical Center, the woman’s condition is guarded.

What Happened?

A woman, who remains unidentified, was reportedly struck by the vehicle at North Oxnard Boulevard and West First Street in the North Oxnard lane at around 10:00 p.m., according to a sergeant with the Oxnard Police Department. A man employed at a nearby gasoline station reported that he heard the collision when it happened; however, he was not an actual witness to the accident. He said the force of the impact was enough to toss the woman onto some rocks that lie alongside a railroad track in the area.

Aftermath of the Accident

Part of North Oxford Boulevard remained closed while police investigated the cause of the collision. The motorist whose vehicle struck the woman stayed at the scene of the injury and cooperated with police.

Witnesses and Videos

While accidents happen quickly, most do not remain unrecorded or unwitnessed. With an increased number of video cameras used by businesses and local government, it is possible to find clear recordings of an incident. For instance, many towns and cities use video cameras at intersections and businesses have outdoor video cameras for security purposes. This footage often is useful in an accident investigation.

Witnesses can also provide useful information about the accident. It is important to get identifying information from witnesses at the scene of an accident if possible. Obtaining a statement soon after the accident preserves information before it can be forgotten.

Pedestrian Accident Statistics

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,  almost 5,000 pedestrians are killed annually, and over 76,000 are injured. Many pedestrian accidents occur when a pedestrian attempts to cross a busy roadway or even a well-marked intersection. Drivers often fail to see a pedestrian entering the crosswalk. Such accidents can result in serious injuries and cause bone fractures, head and brain trauma, cervical spine injuries or other traumatic injuries.

Drivers are responsible for checking for pedestrians. If the driver fails to adhere to that obligation, he or she may be considered to be negligent.
