Two Accidents at Sand Creek Road in Brentwood

I’m Ed Smith, a Brentwood personal injury lawyer, and I want to inform you of two recent crashes near Sand Creek Road in Brentwood. The accidents occurred within a day of each other, but fortunately, no one was seriously injured in either crash.

About the First Accident

On 11 May, a white GMC Sierra pickup rear-ended a blue Volkswagen Jetta at a high rate of speed. The collision drove the Jetta into a guardrail and into the left lane of a divided highway. The accident occurred on the Sand Creek Road overpass on Highway 4 in Brentwood.

Both vehicles were totaled in the accident and the drivers were the only occupants in each vehicle. Police and fire crews had to shut down the left lane of Highway 4 for almost an hour.

Injuries Sustained in the First Accident

The driver of the white pickup truck was uninjured and declined medical treatment at the scene. The driver of the Jetta reported aches at multiple points in his body. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Cause of the First Accident

The police have not released a cause of the accident, but they do not believe that alcohol played a role. In accidents we have addressed as Brentwood personal injury lawyers, many rear-ender accidents are caused by a combination of distracted drivers and/or speeding.

About the Second Accident

Just one day later, on 12 May, a second car accident occurred in the same area. In this accident, three vehicles collided at the intersection of Sand Creek Road and Brentwood Boulevard during peak evening commute hours. Two vehicles were traveling on Sand Creek Road in the direction of Brentwood Boulevard when a third vehicle entered traffic and collided with the other two.

One of the vehicles involved, a Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, rolled onto its side in the accident. The other vehicles involved sustained serious damage.

The Brentwood Police Department and East Contra Costa Fire Department both responded to the accident. Upon arrival, first responders call for a rescue helicopter. After the preliminary evaluation of the victims, however, they canceled the helicopter.

Injuries in the Second Accident

All three drivers and their passengers were evaluated by paramedics at the scene of the accident. All persons declined further treatment and were consequently not transported to a hospital. This does not mean the parties were wholly uninjured, but any injuries sustained were likely minor.

In similar accidents we have worked as Brentwood car accident lawyers, we have seen cuts and bruising to the face from the deployment of the airbag. We have also seen bruising to the torso from the pull of the seat belt. Many people involved in car accidents also later complained of backaches and neck pain.

Cause of the Second Accident

At least one cause of this accident is known. According to the police, one of the drivers was driving recklessly. The preliminary investigation at the scene of the accident revealed that one driver failed to yield to other vehicles when turning onto Sand Creek Road. This caused one vehicle to strike two other vehicles. The police issued a moving citation to the responsible driver. No further charges have been issued at this time.
