Nursing Home Complaints

I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento nursing home abuse lawyer. There has been a troubling trend throughout the state of multiple complaints, lawsuits, and punishments being handed down against nursing homes all across California. People rely on these professional facilities to provide professional care that their loved ones deserve. While many people know how to pick a nursing home, sometimes people can be surprised by what they find on the other side. The Eureka Rehabilitation and Wellness Center was slapped with eight separate fines of $20,000 for a wide variety of violations related to investigations of multiple allegations that were levied against the center.

Nursing Home Complaints About Improper Patient Care

For months, the nursing home was hit with one allegation after another of neglect in the nursing home. While this may not have been anything intentional by the staff, the nursing home is run by Brius Healthcare. The entire system is known for being chronically understaffed. In fact, the nursing home in question is one of three nursing homes that were set to be closed down due to staffing issues. Unfortunately, the story of Eureka is not unique in the state because Brius Healthcare seems to have a monopoly in the industry. After the state inspection confirmed many of the allegations, the fines were delivered. The investigation revealed a troubling pattern of poor patient care.

The Specific Nature of the Fines

The Eureka center was forced to pay eight fines of $20,000 each for a variety of issues. The first fine was levied because the investigation revealed that residents were not being cared for with a comprehensive plan of care. Another fine was placed due to the understaffing issue that has become chronic across the Brius Healthcare system. The nursing home was also forced to pay five separate fines of $20,000 for multiple violations that could predispose residents to accidents. Examples of accidents include falls that can lead to traumatic injuries. People who are elderly have weaker bones than younger people. Lack of railings, too many steep steps, and inadequate lighting are all potential reasons for fines as these can all lead to accidents for elderly patients who could suffer severe extremity trauma.

Trouble Reported from the Inside

While the executives of the Brius Healthcare system try to convince families that everything is alright, the staff reported that the understaffing is a serious issue for their level of care. They report that patients are regularly covered in feces and suffer severe falls late at night. This occurs while the company owner continues to rake in millions in profits. In situations like this, a nursing home abuse lawyer can help you hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
