Fatal Car Accident Vacaville

Fatal Car Accident Vacaville

I’m Ed Smith, a Vacaville car accident lawyer. On Tuesday, March 28, 2017, an area man lost his life as the result of crashing his car while driving south on highway Interstate 505.

What Happened?

A car crash happened at about 2:40 a.m. in Vacaville on I-505 near the eastern section of Monte Vista Avenue. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that there had only been one person in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

According to CHP, the driver had apparently driven his vehicle off of the southbound side of the highway. After leaving the roadway, the car crashed through a metal gate and collided with two large trees. The car was split in half due to the force of the impact with the trees, leaving part of the vehicle by one of the trees and the other half lying at the bottom of a nearby irrigation ditch.

What happened to the Driver?

The driver was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. CHP officer Brent Kwarta told reporters that, while the driver had been wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, the speed at which the driver was conducting his vehicle rendered the seatbelt useless.

Nobody was there to witness the crash when it took place, but another driver pulled up to the wreckage sometime after it happened and reported the incident to CHP. The driver’s identity was not released to the public.

Contributing Factors

CHP has reported that, after investigating the evidence at the scene of the crash, they believe that the motorist had been driving his vehicle at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour at the time of the collision and that this was the main contributing factor in the incident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 33 percent of all accidents resulting in death in the country are the direct result of speeding, adding up to a total of 13,000 deaths per year. Additionally, speeding is the third most common contributing factor in traffic accidents across the United States.

Where to Look Out For Speeding Drivers

It is important to always remain vigilant when near roadways. However, the NHTSA has done studies to determine where drivers are most likely to speed. The results of their studies show that on roads with speed limits up to 50 miles per hour, 47 percent of drivers typically drive faster than the speed limit. Also, data shows that on roads with speed limits up to 35 miles per hour, 20 percent of drivers typically speed. This data shows that, contrary to what most people might expect, highways are not the roadways on which drivers are most likely to speed.
