Fiat Chrysler Loose Bolt Recall
I’m Ed Smith, a Davis auto accident attorney. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has recently announced a safety recall notice with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall involves 69,298 Chrysler and Dodge vehicles equipped with the all-wheel drive (AWD) drive-train.
The recall indicates that there is a problem in the drive-train of the AWD Chrysler and Dodge vehicles were there is potential loosening of the front driveshaft bolts. This can further lead to the loss of power when operating the vehicle in addition to exposing passengers to the risk of a automobile accident.
Loose Driveshaft Bolts Causing Hazard
The driveshaft of a vehicle is a mechanical component that is responsible for transmitting power to the front wheels. This component is also used oftentimes to connect other components of a vehicle’s drive-train. In the incident where a driveshaft becomes disconnected, it could strike the surface of the roadway or even completely disassemble from the vehicle. Either of these two scenarios could cause damage to the power train and the underbody of the vehicle if the problem takes place while traveling on the roadway.
Which Vehicles are Affected by the Recall?
The following vehicles are affected by the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles loose bolt recall:
- Chrysler 300 LX AWD: 2014 to 2017
- Dodge Charger LD AWD: 2014 to 2017
Symptoms of Loose Driveshaft Bolts
If you own a vehicle from the list above, there are some symptoms to look for in your vehicle. These symptoms include unusual vehicle noise and vibration. If these symptoms occur, they may evidently lead to driveshaft failure.
The Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA) company’s statement regarding the recall indicated that there has not been any automobile accidents or injuries involving the driveshaft problem. FCA has claimed that the issue with the driveshaft was revealed upon reviewing warranty data, which led the automaker to conduct an internal investigation. This effort later determined the problem and resulted in the prompt recall. Owners of these vehicles should expect to receive notifications from the FCA on March 31, 2017.
