Symptoms Parents Should Look for After Car Accident
I’m Ed Smith, a West Sacramento car accident lawyer. Being involved in an auto accident with your children in the car can make a bad situation even worse. The problem can be compounded when your child is an infant who cannot yet talk to let you know he or she is injured or in distress. It is not hard to go right into parent mode, but it can be difficult to help your child when you do not know what the problem is or what to look for. If you find yourself in this unfortunate situation, here are some signs that your baby may be injured that you can look for.
If your child begins vomiting after a car accident and it does not appear that the baby has come down with an illness, there is a good possibility it is due to an injury that was sustained in the car accident.
Is your normally good-natured child all of a sudden crabby and irritable? If this scenario is so shortly after you have been in a car crash, your baby might have suffered a traumatic injury. The crabbiness and irritability could be your baby’s way of letting you know something is wrong.
Changes in sleep schedule
An injury that was sustained in a car accident can wreak havoc with your baby’s sleep schedule. So, be watchful of your baby’s sleep times. If your baby’s nap schedule or wake and bedtimes have been noticeably altered, make an appointment with your pediatrician to check for any hidden injuries.
Not only are changes in sleep schedules indicative of a potential injury, so is the inability for your baby to fall asleep. So, if your baby has difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep, make sure to have him or her checked for possible pediatric injuries by a medical professional.
Babies cry. That is a fact that any parent can attest to. But, if your baby is crying more often than normal and just cannot seem to settle down or be consoled, he or she might be experiencing pain as a result of an injury you cannot see.
You know your baby better than anyone. If for any reason your baby seems to be acting in a way that is not usual or “is a little off”, do not second-guess yourself. It is always better to err on the side of caution and have your baby examined to rule out any internal injuries that may have been sustained in the accident.
Some Injuries Cannot Be Seen
If you’ve been in a car accident with your baby in the car, be extra vigilant and look for signs that may indicate that your child has an injury you cannot see. Even if you think everything is fine, make an appointment with your baby’s doctor, just in case. In these instances, it is always better to be extra-cautious to assure your baby’s health and wellness.
