Big Rig Crash Kills Tracy Woman

I’m Ed Smith, a Tracy auto accident lawyer. A woman from Tracy was involved in a fatal big rig accident during the late evening hours of Wednesday, December 28, 2016.

What Happened?

A woman was traveling in her Nissan northbound along Highway 33 in the vicinity of Orchard Road, just south of Vernalis. For reasons that are not known, the 32-year-old woman conducted an unsafe turning movement at approximately 11:35 pm towards the shoulder of the freeway. The movement caused the woman’s vehicle to veer into the gravel shoulder. The woman then quickly changed direction of her vehicle to the left which caused her vehicle to enter the southbound lanes of Highway 33 with oncoming traffic approaching.

Big Rig Crashes Into Woman

A big rig was traveling southbound along Highway 33 moments before the woman entered the southbound lanes. The 24-year-old driver of the Peterbuilt truck was approaching and was not able to evade the woman’s vehicle. This resulted in a collision that propelled the woman’s vehicle into the northbound lanes of Highway 33. The impact of the crash caused the big rig to drive off of the roadway, crash into three almond trees along the way and come to a stop in an orchard.

What Caused the Crash?

Authorities from the California Highway Patrol have not released a cause of the accident at this time. However, investigators do suspect alcohol as a factor in the accident. The motorist of the Peterbuilt was not injured from the crash. The woman’s identity has not been released but was identified as a 32-year-old woman from Tracy. Sadly, the woman sustained fatal injuries in the crash.
