Park Ranger Crashes State Vehicle

I’m Ed Smith, an Oroville auto accident attorney. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is leading an investigation of an auto accident involving a State Park employee vehicle that occurred in Oroville on Thursday afternoon. In a statement released by the State Parks Department, if a state vehicle is involved in a collision, a third party takes over and conducts the investigation.

What Happened?

An accident involving a California State Park vehicle occurred at the intersection of Oro Dam Boulevard and Oro Quincy Highway on Thursday around 2:30 p.m. CHP has identified the park ranger as Daniel Kenney. It was not clear if Kenney was off duty at the time of the collision. Kenney was driving a park  ranger SUV westbound on Oro Damn Boulevard; he crashed into a speed limit sign and then hit a parked car on the opposite side of the road. As a result of the impact, both cars slid into a telephone pole, which came down and completely broke in half. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Daniel Kenney was placed on administrative leave during the investigation.

Did Park Ranger Leave Scene of Accident?

According to a CBS Local news video, the ranger left the scene of an injury accident.

Were There Injuries?

Yes. The driver of the civilian vehicle was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. The park ranger was later taken to a local hospital for evaluation after he was apprehended by police .

If you’ve been injured in an accident with a government vehicle you have only 6 months or 180 days from the date of accident to file your claim. There are other filing requirements also. Contact an experienced attorney right away for assistance with filing a claim.

Road Closures and Power Outages

Eastbound Oro Damn Boulevard was closed for a short time. Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) crews along with CHP worked to get the road back open and traffic signals working once again. About 1,128 PG&E costumers lost power due to the vehicles hitting the power pole and crews worked into the early hours of Friday morning restoring power.
