American Canyon Public Safety Event

Public Safety Event

The city of American Canyon encourages members of the community to come out and get to know your public servants. It’s a good time to talk about the important issue of public safety. Let’s get together and meet those who serve and protect us at the upcoming open house.

Open House Hosted By American Canyon Police Department

If you are a resident of Napa County, Solano County, or a nearby municipality, and want to learn more about issues of public safety, you may want to mark the date of October 16th on your calendar. On that Sunday, from 11 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon, a unique event will take place at the Public Safety Building in American Canyon, located on Donaldson Way East. It is billed as an “open house” and will be put on by the American Canyon Police Department, as well as that city’s Fire Protection District. Its scheduling lines up with that of the broader Fire Prevention Week, according to Martha Banuelos, an administrator with the American Canyon Fire Protection District. It is the tenth year in a row that these institutions have sponsored such an event in American Canyon.

What Can Expect if I Attend?

For one, many members of both the participating organizations – the Police and Fire departments – will be in attendance, so the public will have the opportunity to speak with them directly and ask questions about their daily duties and responsibilities. At a time of increased tensions between police departments and many communities across the nation, events like these give the chance for direct, face-to-face engagement and lay the groundwork for departments which function as part of the community they serve, instead of in opposition to it.

Other Organizations in Attendance

These are not the only groups which will be represented at Sunday’s event, however, and much more than the daily operations of these two departments will be on the table for learning and discussion. Banuelos indicates that other public safety issues, such as CPR, CERT, and Pulse Point will be discussed in depth. In addition, the breadth of organizations which will be on hand to help clarify issues is quite wide and includes PG&E, the Family Resource Center, the Red Cross, and Safe Kids Napa Valley, among others.

American Canyon Public Safety Event Theme

The special theme for this year’s event will be “Don’t Wait – Check the Date”, which refers to the recommendation to frequently check the smoke alarms in your home and to insure their replacement every 10 years. This coincides with the event being the 10th annual sponsored by the American Canyon public safety groups.

Meet and Speak to those who Serve You

Banuelos further describes her hopes for what the event will offer the American Canyon community as the chance for a “non-threatening” and “relaxed environment” in which residents can meet and speak with the personnel who work on their behalf in a public safety capacity day in and day out. She also notes that the American Canyon Police Department and the American Canyon Fire Protection District will be bringing along a number of their service vehicles, including cruisers and fire trucks, for display and inspection at the event. The hope is that this will encourage interested resident parents to come by for the information and discussion, and bring their children along for a little fun checking out the police and fire equipment in the meanwhile.
