Modesto Memorial Run

I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto Auto Accident Injury Attorney. On Sunday September 25, 2016, the Peace Officer Memorial Run which was presented by Doctor’s Medical Center took place. This race was created to honor law enforcement officers from Stanislaus County who were killed in the line of duty.

Race Honors 15 Fallen Heros

The race was held in honor of 15 fallen heroes. A segment of the route was dedicated individually to each fallen officer. A photo of the officer, their department or agency and their “End of watch” date was displayed at their designated mile portion along the route.

Lots of Local Agency Participation

Many local officers participated in the event. They could be seen running, jogging or walking in honor of their fallen brothers and sisters in blue. Some officers even went so far as to run in full gear. A sergeant from the Turlock Police Department ran the half marathon (13.1miles) in full uniform. On average an officer’s gear weighs approximately 26 pounds.

Standard gear worn by officers while on duty:

  • Bullet proof vest
  • Boots
  • Duty Belt, hand cuffs, keys, radio etc.
  • Weapon(s)

Modesto Memorial Run Was Prepared for its Participants

Hydration stations were set up along the course. Water and sport drinks were available to the estimated 1,400 participants. Portable toilets and medical personnel were also provided at the hydration station sites. The course was a very energizing track. It was a beautiful day for a race. Entertainment groups, school bands, and local talent were in attendance to make the day one to remember.

Our condolences and many thanks to the officers that paid the ultimate price for our safety and security.
