Sacramento River Kayaking Fatality

I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento Personal Injury Attorney. A man from Red Bluff suffered a drowning injury while he was kayaking with a relative on the morning of Saturday, July 30, 2016.

What Happened?

Officials from Tehama County stated that the identified man was 59 year old Richard Girard from Red Bluff. It is reported that Girard had lost control of his kayak at approximately 8:15 am while passing through the China Rapids which are located approximately two miles down the Sacramento River from the Bend ramp. This led Girard’s kayak to overturn which caused him to fall out into the Sacramento River. Investigators conducted an autopsy to determine the cause of Girard’s death and concluded that Girard suffered from drowning.

Kayaker Life Recovery Efforts

Richard Girard’s family member discovered Girard’s unconscious body was displaced by the river onto some close by rocks. The Sheriff’s Boating Unit carried Girard to the Bend Bridge boat ramp to receive medical attention. However, medical staff at the boat ramp pronounced Girard deceased at the scene.
