A Bay Area rap star made the start of the 2016 school year a little brighter on Tuesday for students at his city of Vallejo alma mater.

E-40 Makes $25,000 Donation

Earl Stevens, also known to his adoring hip-hop fans as E-40, had a generous surprise for students at the Vallejo middle school where he attended junior high.

It was a gift that he hopes will keep on giving throughout the school year.

Earl Stevens aka E-40 Former Student of the School

Back in the good ol’ days, E-40 was a student at Franklin Middle School. In fact, he was an honor roll student during his 8th-grade year. That was one of the important messages he had for the students on Tuesday.

More than 700 backpacks were filled with crucial school supplies and a personal note from the rapper himself.

Helping Kids Be Successful

This is year three that the Franklin Middle School has provided backpacks to each one of their students. The touching gift of learning is largely thanks to donations from the community and other grants.

The principal of the Franklin Middle School told CBS Local that she was speechless. She said E-40 not only has come back to Vallejo but he has come back to Franklin Middle School.

Everyone in the community seems touched by his generosity and that he remembers where he came from. Not to mention, giving back to the community that helped him grow and develop as a young man.

The Jansport Backpacks Have a Lifetime Guarantee

This school year, when personnel was trying to locate a sponsor to supply the backpacks, E-40 generously stepped up and donated the sum of $25,000 for a 700-count supply of Jansport bags. These are not your run-of-the-mill backpacks. The packs are very nice and stylish. Moreover, every one of the packs has a full lifetime guarantee.

E-40 Says He Made Honor Roll at the Middle School

E-40 told CBS Local that he made the honor roll in 8th grade. He said it made him so happy. He laughed as he reflected on his time at Franklin Middle School. Despite the kids not being born during E-40’s musical prime, they know that he is a local hero around these parts!

More Coming From E-40

The rap star has donated enough supplies for the kids to make it through the entire school year. He is helping to build a music studio at Franklin.

The kids are just beside themselves with excitement.
