Fatal Motorcycle Crash

Hi, I’m Ed Smith, a Vacaville motorcycle accident attorney. A tragic collision involving a motorcycle took place Monday evening in the eastern part of Vacaville, not far from the popular Vacaville Outlets shopping center. The incident, as is too often the case when a motorcyclist is involved, resulted in a fatality.

What Happened?

Around 7 p.m. on the night of the 15th, an S.U.V. attempted to cross Nut Tree Road while traveling west on Fairview Drive, according to Sergeant Nathan Benevides of the Vacaville Police Department. At the same time, however, a motorcyclist was headed north on Nut Tree Road and the two collided in the intersection. The office of the Solano County coroner reports that the rider of the motorcycle was Roy Gallo, a 31-year old Vacaville man, and that Gallo was pronounced deceased at the site of the accident only minutes after its occurrence, at 7:09 p.m. The S.U.V. has been identified as a Toyota RAV-4, but the driver only as “a Vacaville woman”.

See the Vacavlle Police Department’s Press Release regarding this accident.

Victim Riding High-End “SuperBike” – Suzuki GSDR1300

Sergeant Benevides told local news outlets that Gallo rode a Suzuki GSXR1300 on the night of the incident. The model, known popularly as the Hayabusa, is a very high-end sport bike (a “superbike”) which is widely known to motorcycle enthusiasts for its speed. Upon release in 1999, the Hayabusa was billed as the “fastest standard production bike in history” and could reach a top speed of nearly 200 mph. The introduction of the Hayabusa led to such fear of regulatory action or backlash from government entities that Japanese and European manufacturers agreed to arbitrarily cap the top speed of their bikes, an agreement which has remained in place ever since. Nevertheless, the bike has remained the subject of considerable controversy and been at the center of several high-profile accident deaths in recent years.

Motorcycle Rider’s Rate of Speed Unknown

Neither the Vacaville Police Department nor any local media have yet reported further details of the crash, such as the speed at which Gallo was traveling or the identity of the woman driving the S.U.V. The wreck remains under police investigation, according to the sergeant. Benevides does note, however, that Fairview Drive, on which Gallo rode Monday night, has a stop sign at the intersection in question, while Nut Tree Road, the route of the S.U.V. driver, does not.

The Severe Nature of Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle and automobile collisions such as the one that took place Monday night can frequently involve very serious injuries, including nerve and spinal cord damage. The medical repercussions of such an incident can often last years or for the rest of an individual’s life. In some especially lamentable cases, as with the event in question, the result is the death of the rider. If you or someone you know has been involved in such a situation, you need to know clearly your rights and liabilities. You may be entitled to a significant settlement as a result of injury incurred in a motorcycle accident.
