Lodi Skydiving Plane Crash

I’m Ed Smith, a Lodi personal injury lawyer. About twenty people are grateful to be alive today after a plane crashed in an Acampo vineyard near the Lodi Airport yesterday. The owner of the plane has said the propeller may have stopped spinning prior to the crash.

What Happened?

A plane carrying several skydivers hit a pickup truck and then flipped upside down in a crash landing on Thursday, May 12, 2016.

Eighteen people were aboard the Cessna 208 airplane when the pilot determined he needed to bring the plane down near Jahant Road in Acampo. Acampo is located a short distance from the Lodi Airport. Both are located within San Joaquin County.

What Type of Injuries?

The pilot received minor injuries as a result of the crash. Thankfully, seventeen passengers he was transporting walked away uninjured. Two people on the ground narrowly escaped tragedy.

Fear on the Ground

A woman and her husband said they saw the plane coming at them and barely had enough time to react when the airplane clipped the rear of their pickup truck during the pilot’s emergency landing. The woman was frightened and shaken up by the impact, but grateful that her and her husband survived what could have been a far worse tragedy.

Why did the Lodi Skydiving Plane Crash?

The Parachute Center is the registered owner and operator of the plane involved in the incident. The propeller may have stopped spinning according to the owner.

Did the Plane’s Propeller Malfunction?

Maybe. In any airplane malfunction case, the airplanes must be preserved until they are inspected by experts for defects.

Product liability is an area of personal injury law. This area of law focuses on dangerous and/or defective products. Product liability attorneys assist individuals and their families in matters against manufacturers and companies of unsafe/dangerous products.

It is very important that the plane be preserved so that a thorough investigation can be performed by an experienced product liability lawyer to determine if the plane had a defective part and/or was being properly maintained and operated.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is scheduled to perform their own investigation into the cause of the crash on Friday, May 13, 2016.

Meanwhile, the plane sits upside down in the Acampo vineyard where the pilot amazingly landed without a single life lost.
