Rancho Cordova Woman Hurt in Plane Crash
A female resident of Rancho Cordova was transported to the hospital with major injuries after being involved in a plane wreck Saturday, October 3, 2015.
Fire officials in Redding reported the plane as a single-engine Cessna 172. The small-plane had been traveling from Yuba City. It crashed slightly south of the Benton Airpark a little after 11:00 a.m.
The plane went down in a canyon, next to dirt and gravel roads, just a few hundred feet shy of the airpark.
Bryant Garrett, the Redding Airport manager said that the plane had a little too much speed and went off the end of the runway.
The Cessna 172 landed downwind, which is not optimal in windy conditions, Garrett said. Wind gusts were clocked up to 18 mph at the time of the crash, according to the data from the National Weather Service.
The Sacramento office of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Flight Standards will be looking into the details of this crash.
The victim’s name has not yet been released. She is in a hospital near the accident scene. The pilot is David Marth and is the victim’s husband. He was not injured in the crash and was cooperating with authorities at the accident scene.
