CITRUS HEIGHTS ENDURES VANDALISM

Isn’t it infuriating enough when a law abiding citizen learns his car has been broken into by some thief randomly targeting his neighborhood?  The story that follows is an egregious form of vandalism that sent shock waves through a local neighborhood.

Someone Spraying Acid on Vehicles?

During the late night hours of Monday, August 24, 2015, at least 13 automobiles were hit with a squirt of some unknown corrosive substance. This incident of extreme vandalism took place up and down Posten Way in the City of Citrus Heights.

As I watched the news report of this story, I was saddened by how dangerous an act this was. I thought about some unsuspecting resident out at his car retrieving something and becoming sprayed with a corrosive substance. This is sickening to think that there is a disturbed individual running around doing this type of thing.

What is the substance?

Investigators have not yet determined what type of substance vandals used Monday night.

Chandra Edwards explains, “I thought it was dirt and I tried wiping it off and I noticed it was paint and I was like, ‘oh my gosh my car got keyed last night!’”

Is it on my hands?

“Whatever they’re using is very corrosive,” said Randy Cagle. “We went and washed our hands (because) you don’t really know what it was.”

What do we do now to protect ourselves?

Neighbors banded together in mutual concern and dismay. Those who have surveillance video on their properties are being encouraged to turn that valuable piece of evidence over to investigators at the Citrus Heights Police Department.

“You would think nothing would happen being under a street light, but doesn’t seem to deter anything,” Ed Quesada said.

Residents along Posten Way are discussing ways to beef up security in their homes and around their properties. Many neighbors are experiencing stress at the brazen lack of respect for their personal property.

Chandra Edwards will have to pay a $500 deductible to her insurance carrier before repairs can be made to her damaged paint job.  The corrosive substance could not be wiped off of the cars.  It permanently damaged the area in which it landed.  Thankfully, no one was injured.
