Rocklin Bucks for Bikes

I’m Ed Smith, a Rocklin personal injury attorney. Rocklin is a fast growing part of the greater Sacramento metropolitan area. Rocklin was originally settled by Finnish immigrants. The town still features Finnish Temperance Hall and Finnish Picnic Grounds. With more people moving in all the time, there’s a younger, urban feel to the city. More people, more cars. This makes me a big fan of Rocklin Bucks for Bikes program.

Rocklin Bucks for Bikes

Bucks for Bikes offers financial help for people who want to purchase a commuter bicycle, as well as accessories for the bike like a helmet, lights, and bike rack. The program started taking applications for bike financing on February 3rd. Rocklin Bucks for Bikes will continue to accept applications through March 21st.

Bicycling to work or on errands not only reduces the number of cars on the road, but also improves air quality because there is less smog, and helps improve the physical health of the riders.

Drunk and Distracted Drivers

The trade-off for more cyclists on the road, however, is that drivers must be patient and alert. Inattentive drivers, either because they are intoxicated or distracted, are the leading cause of all kinds of car accidents, including accidents involving cyclists and pedestrians. Bike commuters are one of the most at-risk groups, because they frequently ride in the road as part of traffic, but they are not protected like driver’s are by a rumble cage, air bags, seat belts, or other safety equipment commonly found in cars. All a cyclist has for protection is their helmet.

However, this effort to make Rocklin a great place to live is very appreciated by lifelong residents and newcomers alike. It is important, though, for cyclists to know their rights in the event that they are the victims of a car accident. Serious personal injuries can occur after a vehicle hits a cyclist, including head or neck injuries which could have lasting consequences beyond medical bills.
